Dubai initiates air taxi station project as part of its goal for a flying taxi network by 2026
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) begins work on the city’s first air taxi station near Dubai International Airport.
Part of Dubai’s Vision 2030, this station is a step toward establishing a citywide air taxi network.
The station will support eVTOL aircraft, providing residents and visitors with zero-emission, fast transit options.
Dubai has commenced construction on its inaugural air taxi station close to Dubai International Airport. Led by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), the project aims to offer eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing) transport, providing fast, on-demand travel across Dubai. This station is the first in a series of planned hubs under the city’s long-term vision to incorporate airborne taxis into its infrastructure, targeting operational readiness by 2026.
This initiative is a significant leap toward realizing Dubai’s Vision 2030, which focuses on enhancing urban mobility, reducing road congestion, and supporting sustainable transportation. The air taxi station project underscores Dubai’s commitment to pioneering smart city innovations and creating advanced, eco-friendly transport systems. Technical Focus
The air taxi industry is rapidly evolving, projected to exceed $17 billion by 2030. Dubai’s strategy includes building a network of air taxi stations and integrating state-of-the-art eVTOL aircraft into its infrastructure. These electric-powered aircraft have vertical take-off and landing capabilities, ideal for urban transport where space is limited, and can significantly cut down travel times and emissions. The air taxis are expected to have dedicated “vertiports” across high-traffic areas, all connected through advanced traffic management systems to ensure safety and efficiency.
Dubai’s first air taxi station near the airport will include dedicated take-off and landing pads designed specifically for eVTOL vehicles. The station’s design incorporates quick passenger loading and unloading areas to facilitate efficient trips to prominent city locations. “This project is essential in developing a citywide network that supports fast, flexible, and sustainable urban mobility,” said an RTA representative.
As the city’s air taxi network develops, Dubai will likely expand beyond this first station, envisioning a connected network of vertiports across major hubs. With this ambitious project, Dubai is redefining urban transportation, potentially setting a model for other global cities.
